SMAD 332 Posters for Social Good

Spring 2022

I believe in using art to advocate for the things you care about. This project’s topic was bisexual erasure. According to GLAAD, bisexual erasure, or bisexual invisibility, is a “pervasive problem in which the existence or legitimacy of bisexuality is questioned or denied.” My call to action was that we need to increase the inclusion and visibility of bisexuality all around the world.

Inspiration

I started the project by collecting both vector and raster inspiration.

Sketches

Next, I drew 15 sketches for each design direction, for a total of 30 sketches.

Design and Media Rationale

My design layout is Z-shaped, increasing readability. From the start, I wanted to use the bisexual flag colors in my posters.

The bee is a pun, yet also a symbol for the bisexual community. Like bi+ individuals, bees are often misconceived and overlooked but are a large, diverse, and important part of their ecosystem.

Presentation

The posters were printed and mounted on black mat board.
